GHBOB UPDATE

11/8/2023

Good morning GHBOB families, and WELCOME TO CONCERT SEASON! For those who may be new to the GHBOB annual "rhythm," we are moving into a slightly less
hectic portion of the GHBOB calendar. Our students will still have plenty of great performance and educational opportunities for us to support, but our volunteering needs won't be quite so frequent. Enjoy and rest up so you are ready when things take off again in the spring! And in the meantime please read on, for a few important GHBOB updates, and (of course!) still a couple of volunteer opportunities.
  1. ORCHESTRA CONCERT THIS WEEK! As noted, it's officially concert season, and our 5th through 12th grade orchestra students will give their first concert of the year this week tomorrow (Thursday, November 9th), beginning at 6pm in the GHHS Auditorium. In case you missed it, you can click here for Mr. Stanley's recent message about concert dress and logistics for your student, and you can click hereto see the concert program and bookmark it in advance. ALSO, Mr. Stanley would like two parent volunteers to assist on the night of the concert. One volunteer would chaperone younger students in the orchestra classroom during setup (from approximately 5:15pm until 6pm), and the other would chaperone younger orchestra students in the audience during other groups' performances to help ensure polite concert behavior (this would be from about 5:45pm until 7pm or so). Please REPLYto this message, or click here to contact Mr. Stanley directly, if you are able to help.
  2. MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND CONCERT: The Middle School Bands are up next, hot on the heels of the Orchestra, with their first concert performances of the year next week on Wednesday, November 15. The 5th and 6th grades bands will perform at 6pm, with the 7th and 8th grade bands to follow at 7pm, all in the GHHS auditorium. You can click here for a message from the directors about concert dress and logistics for the middle school band. Watch for the concert program next week!

  3. 5/6 FIELD TRIP - STILL NEED SOME CHAPERONES: All 5th and 6th grade orchestra and band students are headed to Ohio State for their annual Music Celebration Youth Concert on Friday, December 1. We do still need some adult chaperones for this event. Please click here for more details, and sign up to help if you can!
  4. SO MANY THANK YOUS! Finally, with the fall officially behind us, GHBOB would like to take just a moment to acknowledge the efforts of a handful of GHBOB members who went above and beyond for our students during the last couple of months. First and foremost, a huge thank you and a fond farewell goes out to Brenda Parker, who has tirelessly chaired our concessions operation for the past three years and will be handing in her keys now that her student is graduating. Brenda's contributions are impossible to quantify, and we are so grateful for all of the time and effort she put in over these last few years. We are also grateful to Lisa Gladman, and her frequent helpers Becca Roberts and Catt Dimes, who organized, assigned, passed out, and checked in our GHHS marching band uniforms all season. Janna Thompson-Chordas (who will also "graduate" this year along with her senior) donated her time and artistic expertise to design the beautiful senior banners that hung in the stadium each week for home games, and she has been giving us that gift for many, many years. Ken Heigel took the photos for the those banners, and also took senior night photos at the football game in late October, creating beautiful and lasting memories for our band families, and Jenn Kinsinger provided the leadership and organization necessary to make those senior night festivities come off without a hitch. In her "spare" time when she wasn't presidenting, Dot Keil threw together a pre-game dinner event for our 8th grade students and the GHHS Marching Band before their joint homecoming performance. Dave Schmied, Jay McKelvey, and Bob Rutter volunteered to drive our band equipment truck to and from away games this year (with Dave taking on the four-hour round trip to Arcadia and the two-hour round trip to Rosecrans!), and Bob also injected some new energy into our concessions sales by masterminding the weekly "specials" through the last half of the football season. Rich Keil got up early many Saturday mornings to help our treasurer Jay Carini count up and deposit the cash intake from the night before, Brian Ball continued as our dedicated marching band show announcer, and Karen Smith  hosted our marching band students for dinner at her home before the last football game. Emily Gephart once again organized the ordering and delivery of 200+ middle school performance t-shirts for our younger students, and way back before the marching season even got going, Molly Schmied organized our annual Decal Drive. And of course many, many, MANY of you volunteered once, twice, or multiple times in the concession stand during the football season, and during the Decal Drive, making it possible for us to raise a significant portion of our annual fundraising haul. THANK YOU TO ALL - we literally could not have done it without
