A message from mr. stanley

11/3/2023

Good morning!
Thursday, November 9th at 6:00pm in the High School Auditorium, 5th-12th
grade orchestra will be having their first live concert of the 2023-2024 school year! 5th-7th grade will start at 6:00pm, and 8th-HS will start at approximately 6:50pm. The students and I are very excited to have the opportunity to share the music we have been working so hard on for the last couple of months. For those of us who are new to concert attire and etiquette, I wanted to share a couple of things and also serve as a reminder to some of the veteran parents and guardians.
Call time:
  • 5th, 6th and 7th Grade Students are expected to be checked in no later than 5:15pm on the day of the concert. This time will be used to tune.
  • 8th Grade and High School students are expected to be checked in, tuned and ready to go by 6:00pm. These students will wait in the orchestra room until the 5th-8th grade portion of the concert is finished.

Concert Dress for Students in Grades 5-8: All 5-8 orchestra students are required to wear their Grandview polo shirt and khaki pants. Shirts ordered this year should be coming in soon.
Concert Dress for All High School Students: All performers are to wear concert black. Here is what is deemed acceptable attire for the performance:
  • Boys: black dress shirt, black slacks/dress pants, black dress shoes, black socks, and black suit jacket is acceptable but not required.
  • Girls: black dress (length must be below the knees) or black dress shirt, black slacks, black dress shoes and black socks.
    • What is NOT permitted is tennis shoes, jeans, t-shirts, casual clothing.
    • Jewelry and other fashion pieces are acceptable and recommended! No long fingernails or jewelry that will inhibit their ability to play their instrument.
Concert etiquette and system: 5th-7th grade students will perform for the first part of the night. At the conclusion of each grade level’s performance, students will be seated in the audience until the conclusion of the 7th grade performance. After the 7th grade performance, there will be a brief intermission for these students and parents/guardians to leave if they are not staying for the 8th grade and high school portion of the concert, and this will be time for parents of 8th grade/high school students to enter and find seats.
Instruments: Even though basses and cellos are to keep their rented instrument at home, students can use their own instruments for the concert. Whichever instrument they feel most comfortable playing is what I want them to play, whether that be the school cello or bass. Violins and violas are expected to bring their instrument as they bring it to school everyday.
Lastly, please let me know ASAP if you or your student has a conflict on the day of the concert. Concerts are mandatory and graded school performances and students must be in attendance at the concert. If your student has practice or games for various sports, please notify your student’s coach of the concert date and time now. Our concert schedule has been up for several months now, and the performing arts directors did our best to make sure there were minimal conflicts with any school trips, sporting events, etc.
