GHBOB 101: THE WINTER
Things slow down a bit as we transition from football and marching season into concert season. But there's still lots going on!
Early December, Grandview Heights holiday event: the HSJE typically performs at this community event.
December through February, Basketball pep bands: all MB/CB members are expected to perform in three pep bands for home Bobcat girls’ and boys’ basketball games. Students select their own performances when sign-ups become available. Students who don’t complete this requirement for any reason (including game cancellation) must complete an alternative assignment.
Late December, Holiday Band concert: this concert marks the beginning of the concert season for the MB/CB students. Jazz Ensemble also performs.
January/February/March, OMEA Solo and Ensemble: all instrumental music students who wish to voluntarily participate in the adjudicated solo and ensemble events sponsored by OMEA are encouraged to do so and will be supported by the directors and BPA. This is typically an all-day Saturday event at an area HS, with performance times throughout the day. Students may perform with a solo, ensemble, or both. The HS event is typically in late January or early February, and the MS event is typically in March or early April. Current and retired music educators serve as adjudicators and assess the performances, providing a rating and feedback to each individual student who participates. Parents and friends may observe the performance.
Winter Concerts: all ensembles present concerts during the first quarter of the calendar year.
OMEA Large Group event: in early March, the full HS CB will participate in the OMEA large group adjudicated event. Again, this will be located at an area high school and the band will perform either on a Friday evening or Saturday. As with the solo and ensemble event, music educators serve as adjudicators and assess the performance, providing a rating and feedback to the band as a whole. And again, parents and friends may observe the performance.
