GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM
“BOBCAT BANDS 101” – for new families or anyone who needs a refresher course!
BOBCAT BANDS 101: THE BASICS
Grandview Heights High School currently has three different instrumental band programs, the Marching/Concert Band (MB/CB), the  Jazz Ensemble (JE), and HS Orchestra (HSO). MB/CB and HSO are open to any student who wishes to participate; JE is a select group for which HS instrumentalists are welcome to audition. Students may participate in any combination of the groups (and there are occasionally students who do all three!).

Edison Intermediate and Larry Larson Middle School has individual bands for each grade level from 5th through 8th grades. Collectively they are are referred to here as the Middle School bands (MSB). They also have an orchestra program divided by grade level, collectively referred to here as the Middle School Orchestra (MSO).

The GHHS Marching Band has two different uniforms. The “summer uniform” consists of the white GH Bands logo polo, navy blue GH Bands logo athletic shorts, short white athletic socks, and white marching shoes. Families must purchase all summer uniform pieces from GHBPA, with the exception of the white socks. The “fall uniform” (also sometimes called the “traditional uniform”) belongs to the band program and is stored at the high school throughout the season. The same white marching shoes are also worn with the fall uniform, along with long white socks (again, supplied by the student) and white gloves which must also be purchased from GHBPA.

All MB/CB students receive a flip folder (aka the "flip") that they are expected to use throughout their time in marching band and pep band. The first one is supplied to the student free of charge - if it's lost or damaged, the student will have to replace it at their own expense.

Jazz ensemble and HS orchestra students have no uniform requirements and are generally expected to wear concert dress clothes for all performances unless otherwise advised. In addition to the concerts identified below, JE students may have a few other ad hoc gig performances during the school year, particularly around the holiday season.

Middle school band students wear a navy blue GH Bands logo polo, which must be purchased from the GHBPA, along with khaki pants or a skirt (supplied by the student) for most performances. [NOTE: navy blue polos have been difficult to source during the pandemic, so this uniform has been suspended until further notice and MSB students also wear concert dress for performances.]

Any high school student missing a required rehearsal, performance, or other activity for any reason must submit an absence form to Mr. Herrmann, available on this web site.
