Mrs. Olis's WEEKLY UPDATE

Wow!!! What a truly great first week of school! The band performed on Friday night to a wonderful crowd who thoroughly enjoyed our first show, “Rock Classics” and ​

followed it up on Sunday night with a successful Decal Drive. To say this has been a busy week is a huge understatement! A big thank you to everyone who performed and volunteered at both the first football game and the Decal Drive. The Grandview Band kids (and parents) continue to prove to be AMAZING! 

Some reminders for this week:

Evening Rehearsals

There are five Evening Rehearsals for this season and that number will not increase.  All five rehearsals are considered required and will be calculated into your grade.  Exceptions to the requirement are (1) for athletes who have traveling matches which return later than 9:00PM on the dates listed above, or, (2) on a case-by-case basis as needed.  Work and non-Grandview Heights activities should be scheduled around Evening Rehearsals; please submit the dates above to your work management or advisors.  

Our second night rehearsal is this Thursday, August 24th, 8:00-10:00PM. Rehearsals will be on Thursday evenings with the exception of the week of September 4. Please note that rehearsal that week will be on TUESDAY evening, September 5th due to the Ox Roast Performance being moved to THURSDAY evening that week.

Summer Uniform - REMINDER

The band will be performing in their Summer uniform for at least the first two games. Consistency from student to student is very important.  All students are expected to follow these guidelines:

• All members will wear their white band polo, blue band shorts, white socks, and white marching shoes.
• Members with long hair will have their hair up in a pony tail and/or french braid.
• Undershirts and/or tank tops should be white - avoid contrast colors or graphic prints.

Flip Folders

Each band member received a flip folder from the band at the beginning of the season.  The flip folder allows your student to conveniently keep their music organized and transport it easily.
If your student has misplaced the flip, it is their responsibility to replace it.  Flip folders are available from Stanton’s Sheet Music (330 South Fourth St), Music & Arts (Graceland Shopping Center), Buckeye Brass (7445 Montgomery Dr, Plain City), or online.  Flip folders come standard with 5 ‘windows.’  It is recommended you purchase extra windows to accommodate all the music distributed. 

The first flip folder check will be this Thursday at our night rehearsal.

Ox Roast Pit Lighting - Thursday, September 7 - NEW THIS YEAR!!!!

The Bobcat Boosters have decided to move the Ox Roast Pit Lighting to Thursday evening instead of after the football game on Friday.  All band members will be responsible for reporting to the Stevenson Elementary parking lot at 8:30pm on Thursday, September 7. Students will be responsible for transportation to Stevenson. We will line up at Stevenson, march down to the Ox Roast, perform songs throughout the event, then march out. We should be finished around 10:15pm. Students can then return to the band room to drop off instruments.

NOTE: All large instruments (baritone, sousaphone, and drums) will need to transport their instruments to and from Stevenson.
