GHBOB UPDATE

4/18/2024

I don't know about all of you but I am JUST NOW recovering from last week's celebrations. But I'm back just in time to bring you all up to date on what's coming in
the next few weeks, so please read on for some great news and important updates from GHBOB!
  1. CAKEWRAP: In case you missed it, last week was a HUGELY SUCCESSFUL week for us! The first ever Cupcake Concert, featuring orchestra student performances and free cupcakes, was a big success on Wednesday evening. Big thanks to our GHBOB Orchestra Liaison Tessa Carrel for spearheading this event. And our 75th Annual BOBCake Bash was a massive and record-breaking fundraising success - HUGE kudos to BOBCake Bash Co-chairs Catt Dimes and Terra Welsh for leading this spectacular effort. You can click here for a full story and lots and lots of photos, on the front page of our web site. THANK YOU CATT, TERRA, and TESSA!
  2. HONORING OUR SENIORS: This week brought the GHHS annual scholarship awards ceremony, where our GHBOB VP Jennifer Kinsinger was pleased to award two $1000 GHBOB scholarships to seniors Colin Parker and Lyla Baxter, recognizing their positive impacts on the GH instrumental music programs, and a $500 Mary Jo Gaskalla scholarship to Colin Parker, recognizing his commitment to continue studying and participating in music at the college level. Congratulations, Colin and Lyla! Several of our musicians also performed at the event. Click here for story and photos.
  3. SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: The Bobcat Boosters organization will be delivering the mulch for their annual mulch sale THIS Saturday April 20. If you have a MS/HS student who is available to help out, please send them to the parking lot behind 815 Grandview Ave at 7:30 AM on Saturday. The Bobcat Boosters offer breakfast, lunch, AND 3-4 service credit hours that students now need to graduate. And more importantly the Bobcat Boosters have offered HUGE support to our programs over the last several years, including a significant donation to "save" Band Camp in 2021, as well as another significant donation to help us replace the drumline this year. They also support the spring musical, all of the middle and high school athletic teams, and many many other student initiatives in Grandview throughout the year. The chances are pretty good that your student has benefited at some point from the Bobcat Boosters efforts - and this is our big chance to give back by helping them with one of their major fundraising events. Please encourage your student(s) to help if they are able.

  4. SENIOR PICNIC: GHBOB sponsors a senior picnic for all band and orchestra seniors every year, and this year's event is on Sunday May 19 at 6pm at the home of Bob and Julie Rutter (hey, that's me!). Click here for more details and to RSVP. Please note this is a senior students and directors event only, intended as a last opportunity for them to gather, hang out, swap stories, and reminisce before graduation.

  5. FINAL CONCERTS NEXT WEEK! Can you believe that next week is the lastconcert performance of the school year, for all of our instrumental music groups?? Yeah, me neither. But the good news is, it means we have concerts all week long! The GH Orchestra students will give their final concert performance on Tuesday April 23 at 6pm. Then our middle school bands will take the stage on Wednesday April 24, 5th and 6th grade at 6pm, and 7th and 8th grade at 7pm [EDITED TO UPDATE: 7/8th grade performance will begin at 7:30pm to accommodate an athletic event]. Finally, our GHHS concert band and jazz ensemble will give their spring concert on Thursday April 25 at 7pm. ALL PERFORMANCES are in the GHHS auditorium - and we will recognize and celebrate our seniors at the April 25th event. Mark your calendars and plan to join us for three days of beautiful music!

  6. GHBOB MEETING: The next monthly meeting of the GHBOB is tonight, Thursday April 18, in the GHHS Band Room. To accommodate those who will be attending the GHHS track meet, we are delaying our usual start time and will start at 7pm. Please join us if you are interested and able! (You can enter through the band room doors that face Fairview Ave - just knock loudly if they are not open.)

  7. BAND CAMP 2024: Finally, just a quick heads up to families of current 8th-11th graders who plan to be in the GHHS Marching Band next year - we do plan to release Band Camp information very soon. The pre-camp, camp week, and post camp rehearsal dates are already marked on the band calendar, which you can find by clicking here, so please make note of these dates as you make your family's summer plans (and contact Mrs. Olis about any conflicts). Also note that it takes a long (loooooong) time for the school to provide official rosters, so we will work from this year's rosters until we have updated info (with apologies to anyone who is not continuing in band, although hey - you should really think about continuing in band!). On the flip side, if you or your student is aware of any student who plans to be in band next year who is NOT in band this year, please let us know by reply to this email, so we can get them looped in on Band Camp info.
