GHBOB UPDATE

​Hello GHBOB friends, and welcome back from the long holiday weekend! Here are a few quick notes from the GHBOB.

1. CONGRATS TO OUR GHHS MUSICIANS! Six members of the GHHS Concert Band recently performed solos at the District 15 OMEA Solo & Ensemble event and all of them performed very well. Freshmen Charlotte Ritzman (flute) and Max McCollough (horn), sophomore Liv Glaser (bassoon), and senior Lyla Baxter(baritone sax) each achieved a Superior rating which is the highest available. Additional kudos go out to Max, Liv, and Lyla, who challenged themselves by performing Class A solos, which is the most difficult level possible. Junior Ben Carini (trumpet) and senior Colin Parker (trumpet) each received a rating of Excellent, which is the second highest available. GHBOB is proud to congratulate and support all of these students!
   
2. CONCERT SEASON CONTINUES: Our middle school bands will give their next concert of the season this Thursday, February 22, in the GHHS Auditorium. The 5th and 6th grade bands will perform at 6pm, and the 7th and 8th grade bands will perform at 7pm. Click here for information from the directors about what your student should wear, where they should be, and when - and check back on our documents page later this week for the concert program. 
   
3. HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE BLITZ? GHBOB is in the midst of 30 Day Volunteer BLITZ, highlighting upcoming volunteer leadership needs on the GHBOB Board. You can follow along on our web site by clicking here, or in our Facebook group, or both! We also hope you'll consider joining us for a casual Leap Day social event on February 29 at 7pm at the Grandview Theater, where current GHBOB leaders and volunteers will be available to answer questions, hang out with, and generally entertain you as we LEAP INTO VOLUNTEERING together. 4. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE: All graduating seniors currently enrolled in the Orchestra, Concert Band, and/or Jazz Ensemble are eligible to apply for two scholarships sponsored by GHBOB. More information and links to the online applications are available on the front page of our web site by clicking here. Applications are due no later than 11:59pm on March 1, 2024. 
5. ATTENTION FAMILIES OF 8TH GRADERS: Do you or your student have questions about high school band? We have answers! Click here to read Mrs. Olis's letter to 8th grade families, and click here for her FAQ.  If you are wondering if your rising freshman can fit high school band in with their other academic, athletic, and social plans, Mrs. Olis's answer is a resounding yes, yes, and YES!
