GHBOB UPDATE

HELLO AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, GHBOB friends! We hope you enjoyed your holidays and winter break, but if you are anything like me that feels like a distant ​

memory. Anyway, the good news is, it's now time to get back to the business of making music and supporting our instrumental music students! Below are a few important updates from the GHBOB, so please read on.

1. MORE AMAZING STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Just because you haven't heard from us in a while, don't think that means our young musicians haven't been giving us new things to brag about! In case you missed it, you can click here to check out the front page story on our web site about GHHS senior Colin Parker, junior Carmen Cunningham, and freshman Max McCollough and their recent performances with ensembles outside of GHHS. Way to make us proud, friends. 
2. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE: If you have a graduating senior in your home who is a member of the orchestra, jazz ensemble, or band program this year, they are eligible to apply for two scholarships sponsored by GHBOB - the $1000 GH Band & Orchestra Scholarship, and the $500 Mary Jo Gaskalla Scholarship. Applications are available online only, and must be submitted electronically by 11:59pm on March 1. Click here to find the story on the front page of our web site, including links to the online applications.

   CONCERT SEASON CONTINUES: The GH Orchestra will give the first concert of the 2024 calendar year this Thursday, February 8, at 6:00pm in the GHHS Auditorium. All orchestra students in grades 5 through 12 will perform. Then next up is the middle school bands, who will give their second concert of the school year on Thursday February 22 at 6:00pm (5th and 6th grade bands) and 7:00pm (7th and 8th grade bands), also in the GHHS Auditorium. Lots of great music to be made, don't miss out!

   COMING SOON - THE BOBCAKE BASH! Folks, when it gets to be springtime in Grandview Heights, that can only mean one thing: cake, cake, and more cake! The GHBOB's annual spring fundraiser, the BOBCake Bash, will take place this year on April 12, from 6:30 to 9:30pm in the GHHS Gymnasium. Although this beloved tradition is 75 years old this year, that name is actually brand new for 2024, so if it sounds unfamiliar to you, you are not imagining things. You can click here to read more about the long history of this event in our community, as well as the GHBOB's decision to  update its name this year. And in the meantime please mark your calendar and plan to help us out with this VERY IMPORTANT FUNDRAISING EVENT because we will need each and every one of you to be involved to make it a success.

   NEXT GHBOB MEETING: Finally, please join us for the next meeting of the GHBOB NEXT Monday, February 12 at 6:30pm in the GHHS Band Room (enter from the Fairview Ave doors). ALL ARE WELCOME, we are super fun and hardly ever bite! (Just checking to see if anyone is still reading . . . ) Hope to see you then!
