GHBOB UPDATE

CONGRATULATIONS, FAMILIES....YOU MADE IT!
As hard as it may be to believe, and as hard as it may have been to achieve, those ​

students made it back to school today. You did it! Now that your house is quiet and your decks are clear, please read on for a few important updates, and please pay special attention to our (desperate) cries for help. 

1. BAND PARENTS NO MORE: In recognition of the fact that the GH Band Parents Association is supporting and advocating for all instrumental music programs in Grandview Heights, we have officially rebranded and renamed ourselves this summer, and we are now the "Grandview Heights Band & Orchestra Boosters". In addition to (we hope!) being more inclusive and reflective of our mission, it also gives us the nifty new nickname "GHBOB" to go by, which, contrary to popular belief (or maybe just his), has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that my husband's name is also Bob. If you have a Grandview Heights instrumentalist in your home, then welcome aboard, you are now a GHBOB member. We are glad you're here! 
2. WE NEED YOUR HELP: We are SO glad you're here in fact, that we want to invite you to help us out RIGHT AWAY with a couple of VERY IMPORTANT fundraising efforts. The GHBOB staffs the concession stand at home Bobcat football games, starting THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, and as of press time there are still eight empty slots on the the signupgenius. Please, please PLEASE click here and sign up, to help us out. The work is easy and fun, no experience required. We'll teach you everything you need to know! Anyone can volunteer - you need not have a student in the marching band! And feel free to sign up for a few more future slots while you are there!

   WE NEED YOUR HELP (PART DEUX): The GHBOB Decal Drive is our largest single-day fundraising event of the entire year, and it is set for this THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 20. Our GHHS musicians do the real legwork, going door-to-door to ask our fellow GH citizens to support the instrumental music programs - but they need adult drivers to shuttle them to and fro around town. Again, we have nine vacant slots on our signup right now, and this is a CRITICAL effort that we cannot be shorthanded for. Please click here to help us out if you can, particularly if you are already on the District's cleared list for FBI/BCI background checks. Anyone can help - you need not have a student in the HS groups!

   WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE DOUGH? We're glad you asked! In just the last twelve months, we helped send every single orchestra student to see a ProMusica Chamber Orchestra performance in downtown Columbus, underwrote the professional jazz musician guest artists who worked with our high school jazz ensemble, sent all of our 5th and 6th grade band and orchestra students on a field trip to see the holiday concert at Ohio State, underwrote the participation of more than 10 middle school band students at OMEA solo & ensemble, and paid for professional adjudicators to observe and teach our 7th and 8th grade band and orchestra students before they spent a fun day at King's Island last spring. You can read about all that and more by clicking here to catch up on past news stories on our web site.

   NEXT GHBOB MEETING: Want to learn more? Have other ideas for fundraising? Want to pitch in but just not sure how? Join us for our next monthly GHBOB meeting at 6:30pm this Thursday, August 17, in the GHHS Band Room. Among other exciting agenda items we will officially vote in our brand new VP, Jennifer Kinsinger, who has recently agreed to join the GHBOB Board. We couldn't be more excited - welcome, Jenn!
6. GHHS MARCHING BAND DEBUT: finally, as I mentioned, we all can't wait to see our marching Bobcats take the field for the first time this Friday, August 18, at pregame and halftime of the Bobcats home opener vs. Centennial. And either way, come join us for the show on Friday night - the pregame show will step off around 6:45pm at Bobcat Stadium with kickoff to follow at 7pm. GO BOBCATS!
