BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Hello and happy new year, Grandview band and orchestra families! Wait, is it actually February already? Can I still say Happy New Year?! WHATEVER - here are a few

updates from the GH Band Parents Association:

1. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: do you have a graduating senior in your home? Great news! The 2023 GHBPA Scholarship applications are now available. Find them on our web site by clicking here. GHBPA awards two $1000 Band Parents scholarships each year to students who have had a positive effect on the GH music program, and one additional $500 scholarship in honor of former band director Mary Jo Gaskalla, to a student who intends to study or participate in music at the college level. Graduating seniors currently enrolled in an instrumental music course are eligible to apply. All applications must be submitted electronically, no later than 11:59 PM on March 1, 2023.

   CONGRATS ARE IN ORDER! 2023 has been an amazing year for our instrumental music students already! GHHS musicians Ali Hamm and Colin Parker recently participated in the Ohio State Honor Band Festival along with 250 other talented musicians from 100 high schools across four states. Four GHHS musicians also performed solos at the OMEA District 15 Solo and Ensemble Competition, including Lyla Baxter, Livia Glaser, Aylish O'Harra, and Colin Parker. ALL FOUR students received ratings of superior or excellent! Read more about both of these events on our web site by clicking here. Congrats to Ali, Colin, Lyla, Livia, and Aylish -  we are so proud of you!
3. WINTER CONCERTS: Our next round of performance opportunities will be here before you know it! The middle school bands will kick things off on February 22 with their winter concerts, this year presented in the GHHS gymnasium. The 5th and 6th grade bands will perform at 6:00pm, and the 7th and 8th grade bands will perform at 7:00pm. Then the GH Orchestra will give their winter concert, at 5:30pm [edited] on February 24, location TBD. The GHHS Concert Band will perform on March 14, and the GHHS Jazz Ensemble will wrap up this round of performances with their annual Artist in Residence concert, on March 16. Both March concerts will be at 7:00pm in the newly renovated GHHS auditorium! Lots of great music to be made in the next couple of months - mark your calendars now! (And, if you have a middle school musician, maybe start hunting for that performance shirt and khaki pants.)
4. CAKE WALK! The Band Parents Association's last major fundraiser of the year will be on April 14, with the annual Cake Walk event returning to the newly renovated GHHS gymnasium. This event requires quite a lot of volunteer support (as well as quite a lot of cake!) so please make note of the date and plan to help out that evening. It's an all hands on deck operation, and the funds we raise help support activities and opportunities for all of our students, so we really need all of your help. More details to come!
