BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Good morning, band families! Now that your camper is off to Band Camp, and you have a nice quiet house and time to focus....here are some quick and important Band Parent

reminders.

1. DECAL DRIVE: the Drive this year is on Sunday, July 28 from 6-8pm, and we still need just a FEW MORE PARENT VOLUNTEERS for this important fundraising event. We only need about two hours of your time, and you'll help us raise more than $10,000 - that's a huge bang for your volunteer buck! Please visit the signupgenius today and help us out.
2. BOBCAT BANDS 101: did you miss the new band family orientation yesterday? Are you a veteran band parent who just needs to be reminded about some important details? Great news - we have you all covered! The one-page Quick Reference Guide that we distributed yesterday is now available on the Documents tab of the band web site. In addition, Bobcat Bands 101 is a new feature on the band web site, and it walks you through the entire band season from beginning to end in greater detail. Performances are explained, fundraising events are identified, and volunteer opportunities abound. Check it out!
3. CALL FOR PHOTOS: going to chaperone at Band Camp this week? Send us pictures! Volunteering to drive students for the Decal Drive? Send us pictures! Attending the Falco Park concert? Send us pictures! (You get the idea.) Throughout the season, we are always on the prowl for current band photos to share with everyone else on the Facebook page and the web site. You can send them to us by reply email to this email address, or share them yourself directly on the Facebook page. Thanks for your help!
4. FALCO PARK CONCERT: the traditional "kick off" to the GHHS Marching Band season is an outdoor concert in Falco Park (in Marble Cliff), usually on the Sunday before school starts. This year's concert is on Sunday, Aug 11 at 7pm. A few parent volunteers will be needed to help load and unload the equipment truck and set up and tear down the performance space. Watch for a signupgenius coming soon!

   BAND CAMP REMINDERS: if you are chaperoning this week, instructions are available here. Students will return to GHHS on Friday around lunchtime - your student can update you on their specific ETA that day, and/or your can join Mr. Herrmann's "Remind" group to be added to his distribution list for text updates (text @ghhsband to 81010).
6. 
   COMMUNICATIONS: as we head into the "thick" of the marching season, a quick reminder of how the Band Parents will communicate with you. Email is our primary mode of communication - you can expect email updates roughly once per week during football season, and they become a little less frequent during the rest of the year. If you or someone you know wants another email address added to our distribution list, just let us know by reply email. Also note: all emails from the Band Parents and from Mr. Herrmann are posted on the web site blog, and tagged by category. So if you ever feel like you've missed or lost something, the web site is a great resource as well. The Band Parents Facebook page and twitter feed (see details below) are also great places to stay on top of Band Parent news and information. Choose the method(s) that work best for you!
