BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Greetings and Happy New Year, GH Band and Orchestra families! Lots of exciting news to report as we kick off 2022 - please read on!

1. EXCITING SPECIAL EVENT!!! Have you heard the BIG news? The US Naval Academy Band is kicking off a midwest tour, and they have selected Grandview Heights as one of their tour stops! Mark your calendars now for 7pm on Thu Feb 10, when the USNA Brass Quintet will give a FREE concert in the NEW Larson Middle School commons. What a great honor for our community, and great opportunity for our students to see such a high caliber group up close and in person. Wow! (Please remember that facial covering requirements are still in effect if you choose to attend.)
2. SEVEN O'CLOCK JAZZ BAND: Did you know that about 17 instrumental music students across grades 7 through 12 are getting up early twice a week to come and participate in the exploratory jazz group? They have affectionately dubbed themselves the "Seven O'Clock Jazz Band" since they are meeting for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays before school starts. Kudos to Mr. Stanley for leading this group, and fostering and inspiring their curiosity and willingness to learn and try new things! Mr. Herrmann has invited the SOJB to make their debut appearance at the next High School band concert, to showcase what they have learned. We can't wait to see and hear them in action.
3. WE ARE IN CAKE TALKS: Do you like CAKE? And thinking and dreaming and talking about CAKE? Do we have an opportunity for you! As many of you probably know, one of the BPA's biggest annual fundraisers has historically been a cake-centered event (you can read more about its history here, or read about last year's event here), but the pandemic and facilities projects of the past two years have made planning for this event more challenging than usual, to say the least. If you have a creativity gene and are just itching to put it to use, the Band Parents are currently brainstorming about the spring 2022 cake fundraiser, and we would love your input. Please reply to this message or reach out to our president, Dot Keil, to give us your thoughts. 
4. NEXT BPA MEETING: We have rescheduled the next general meeting of the Band Parents Association, due to the USNA Brass Quintet performance. Please plan to join us on Weds Feb 16, at 6:30pm in the NEW Larson Middle School media center if you are so inclined!
