BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Good morning, band families! LOTS of very important updates below - please read closely!

1. PERMISSION SLIPS: Our Band students' November 5 field trip to see The Ohio State University Marching Band in concert is now less than three weeks away! Your student's teacher will be sending home a permission slip very soon, or you can also find it here and print it out at home. Please fill it out and return it to your student's band teacher no later than Friday, October 29. Students must have a signed permission slip on file in order to attend the event! (More details on lunch arrangements coming soon.)
2. MARCHING BAND DINNER: All GHHS Marching Band members will be treated to dinner before this week's final home game on Friday 10/22! Dinner will be served in the NEW Middle School commons, starting at 5:00pm. GHHS Band Parents Molly and Dave Schmied have planned and will be hosting this event, and our friends at Aladdin's Eatery in Grandview have generously donated a meal (which will include vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options), free of charge for our students. Our thanks to all of them!
3. CONCESSIONS VOLUNTEERS: We still need your help this Friday in the concession stand! This is the last time you will hear this from me this year! We need five more volunteers, so please click here if you are able to help. Remember that it is senior night, so we want to give our upperclassmen parents a break. Great opportunity for middle school parents to pitch in!
4. UPCOMING PERFORMANCES: The GHHS Jazz Ensemble kicks off this year's concert season with their fall concert, Adventures in Standards, this Wednesday, October 20 at 7pm in the NEW Middle School Commons. This performance is FREE and open to all - please consider attending if you have a student who might be interested in auditioning for Jazz Ensemble in the spring. The following week, our GHHS Marching Band will take the field for their Season in Review - a live performance of all of their 2021 shows. This event is also free and open to the public, and big fun for big fans of Marching Band, so mark your calendars now!
5. NEW! NEW! NEW! CONCERT PROGRAM INFORMATION: To promote sustainability and to simplify your lives and ours, the GHBPA is experimenting with electronic programs for all of this year's performances. The program for this week's Jazz Ensemble concert is available here if you want to queue it up in advance, and we'll also post a QR code for you to scan on the night of the concert. We'll still be providing some hard copy programs for those who prefer, but we look forward to reducing our costs and paper usage over time, and we welcome your help with that effort.
6. STILL WITH THE BAND? Hey, us too! We have just a few Adult XL "I'm With the Band" shirts left - they will be available Friday night in the concession stand and/or by reply to this email, until they are gone. $20 each!
7. DID YOU KNOW? GHHS senior Sofie Markle is a member of the 2021-22 Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra! Sofie and the CYJ had a concert this past weekend that we didn't think to share with you all, but we won't make that mistake twice! Watch for more details on their next performance on December 5. CYJ is just one of many student enrichment opportunities that the GHBPA wants to do a better job of publicizing and supporting, so that all of our grade 5-12 Band students can expand their musical learning experiences. Go, Sofie!
