BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Greetings Marching Band families! Things are off to a great start this week, and today is the big day that the WHOLE BAND will be together for the first time. Good things are

 happening! Read on for important reminders and details. 

1. PRE-CAMP REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Need a reminder about the schedule for the rest of this week? Find it by clicking here, or by clicking here.
2. BAND PARENTS ASSOCIATION MEETING: The BPA board will hold its July meeting tomorrow, Thursday July 20, at 6:30pm in the GHHS Band Room. All are welcome! Come and join us and hear how you can help support all of the instrumental students of the GH schools and have fun doing it!
3. BAND CAMP! This Sunday, July 23, our campers will depart from GHHS for Otterbein. Please click here for the schedule on when and where your student should report to school for Band Camp check-in. Click here for a reminder of the (very important) Band Camp rules that your student should keep in mind all week. Click here for the packing list that will tell you what junior can/must (and absolutely CANNOT) bring to Band Camp. And click here for the form that needs to be filled out for every medication that your student will be bringing to camp with them.
4. PARENT INFO SESSIONS: BPA officers will offer two separate and VERY BRIEF information sessions on Sunday during check-in, at 1:45pmand 2:30pm. We'll offer a quick overview of how the season will unfold, as well as an explanation of our volunteering needs and other activities of the BPA. Great for new families, but families of ALL students are welcome! 
5. WHAT COMES NEXT? A bunch of things! For the GHHS Marching Band, everything kicks into high gear pretty quickly after Band Camp ends. There are four evening rehearsals in August before school starts, as well as the Athletic Dept's group photo day on August 9. The Marching Band's traditional first performance of the season is an outdoor concert in Marble Cliff's Falco Park on Sunday, August 13. One of the BPA's biggest fundraisers of the year - the Decal Drive - will occur on Sunday, August 20 (your student must participate, and we hope you will as well, so please mark your calendar now). Plus we Band Parents staff the concession stand at all home Bobcat football games, which is another significant fundraising source. More details and signupgeniuses will be coming your way soon, please be prepared to pitch in and help! 
6. HELPFUL RESOURCES: Finally, for all those who may be new to this, or who just need a reminder, the Band Parents Association uses a number of tools to help you stay up to date as the year goes on. First, there's our web site (that you can find by clicking here). On that page, you'll find the communications tab (click here) where we post all of the emails that we send, in case you accidentally delete one or ever feel like you missed something. The official department calendar is also available on the web site (click here for that), and we recommend you and your student subscribe for real-time updates. The Bobcat Band/Orchestra 101 tab (that you can find by clicking here) is a rundown of a typical year in the GH instrumental music programs, so if you hear a term or event mentioned and you aren't sure what it is, that can be a great resource to check. And finally, we also maintain a private Band Parents Facebookgroup (search GHBandParents and ask to join), where we post photos, reminders, and other announcements. Plus these email blasts, of course - and we are happy to add additional email addresses to our distribution list at any time - just reply to these messages and let us know!
