BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

9/3/2019

Greetings, Grandview Marching Band families! Hope that many of you were able to enjoy the exciting start to our GHHS MB season on Thursday night. It was a great
performance by Mr. Herrmann and all of our marching Bobcats (and an exciting 1-point win for our football Bobcats as well)! Here are a few notes about what's coming up next.
  1. IT AIN'T OVER: we are exceptionally grateful to all the volunteers who stepped it up to help run the concession stand, manage senior banners, and do all the other things to make our first game a huge success last week - thank you! This is just a reminder that we continue to need volunteers all season long. You can find signupgeniuses here and here; please keep checking in and signing up to help out when you can. In particular, at last check, we still needed help with equipment loading and unloading for this week's away game - but we will obviously take your help whenever and wherever we can get it, so don't be shy. Please and thank you very much!
  2. OX ROAST PIT LIGHTING: for those who may be new to Grandview and/or the Marching Band, this week includes a special event performance for the GHHS MB. The Bobcat Boosters' annual Ox Roast is this weekend, and there is a "pit lighting" ceremony late on Friday night, to (literally!) light the pit where the meat for Saturday's Ox Roast sandwiches will cook all night long. The ceremony traditionally occurs after the Bobcats' football game, and the Marching Band, cheerleaders, and senior football players all participate - it's akin to a giant community pep rally. The venue is Pierce Field (next to Stevenson Elementary), and Mr. Herrmann will provide specific details on where and when students should report to line up for the performance. When the Bobcats play "away" as they do this week, it makes for a very late night . . . but it's also a lot of fun, and you and your families are encouraged to come and watch and cheer along.
  3. BAND HANDBOOK: have you and your student reviewed and signed the 2019-20 Grandview Bands Handbook yet? This was due to be completed by August 26. If it's not completed before this Friday September 6, your student will not be able to travel to the game at Africentric, because among other things your signature constitutes your permission for him/her to be transported there. Find the Handbook here on the Band web site if you still need to complete this task - the signature page is at the back of the document.
