BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Good morning and WELCOME to the 2019-20 season for the PRIDE OF GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS. Things will start getting crazy very soon, so here are a few reminders as we

kick off the new season and school year!

1. FALL UNIFORM FITTINGS:all GHHS Marching Band members need to be fitted for their formal fall uniform. These fittings are conducted by Band Parent volunteers and are set to occur this week on the following schedule:Seniors + Juniors, Tue 7/16 from 5 to 8pm; Sophomores, Weds 7/17 from 7-8:30pm; Freshmen, Thu 7/18 from 7:30-9pm. Please note​ that if your student has a conflict on the night s/he is scheduled, s/he can come during any of these time slots instead. Fittings will occur in the hallway outside the GHHS band room. Please make sure your student shows up for a fitting at some point this week - it's very important that we have each student assigned to a uniform in advance of the season.  
2. SUMMER UNIFORM ITEMS: all shoes, gloves, polo shirts, and shorts that were ordered and paid for in June will be available for pickup in the band room this week during/after rehearsals. Please remind your student to stop and pick his/her items up - we find that sometimes teenagers don't have the best attention to detail and these things can be forgotten until the last minute. I know. You're shocked. Us too!
3. NEW BAND PARENT ORIENTATION: just a reminder that if you and/or your student are new to Marching Band this year, we are planning a very brief "Band Parent Orientation" session for you during Band Camp drop off next Sunday 7/21 at 12:15 in the HS Staff Lounge. You'll get the basics about schedule, time commitments, and volunteer needs, and also have the opportunity to have any and all questions answered. (Note, this is not mandatory, so don't worry if you cannot be there.)
4. PRE-BAND CAMP: as you are probably already aware, GHHS Marching Band rehearsals begin THIS WEEK! Squad leaders and drumline report today, Mon 7/15. New members, squad leaders, and drumline also report tomorrow Tu 7/16, and all​ members are expected for Weds, Thu, and Fri rehearsals. The band room opens for instrument and music pickup each day between 10:30 and 11am, and rehearsal runs from 11am-1pm. Please make sure your student knows the schedule and shows up on time. 
5. BAND CAMP: as you probably also know, Band Camp is NEXT week, July 21 through 26, at Wittenberg University. Students report for check-in on Sunday 7/21 on the following schedule: freshmen 12-12:30pm, sophomores 12:30-1pm, juniors 1-1:30pm, and seniors 1:30-2pm. PLEASE NOTE that once checked in for camp, students may not leave the school again. (The sole exception is percussion and tuba players, who should plan to load their instruments between 11:45am-12pm, and then may leave the school and return for their class report time.) The first meal the students are served at camp is dinner on Sunday night - so plan accordingly and either feed them lunch before they go, or send snacks/lunch along with them to eat while they wait for the buses to depart for Wittenberg. 
6. DECAL DRIVE: finally, please don't forget that the GHHS Marching Band DECAL DRIVE is on  the evening of Sunday 7/28. ALL GHHS MB students are expected to participate, and we will need significant parent volunteer help as well. Expect a signupgenius and more details, very soon!
