BAND PARENTS UPDATE

8/20/2017

Hello GH Band families! Just a few notes this week from the GHBPA:

  1. BAND PARENTS OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS. Have a question about something the Band Parents are up to? Though you are always welcome to contact Mr. Hermann or me, you will get a faster response (and help ease Mr. Hermann’s email traffic) if you go directly to the person in charge of the activity. Officers and chairs names are all posted on the Grandview Bands web site (http://www.grandviewhtsband.org/band-parents-association.html), with most names linked to the individual’s email address. Please check there and direct your questions accordingly.
  2. BAND BLOG. For those who haven’t visited the web site lately, just a “heads up” that all Band Parent and Band Director email updates are now being posted to the Blog page there (http://www.grandviewhtsband.org/blog). Can’t find that message in your in-box that you just know had important dates, deadlines, and other information in it? Find it on the blog instead! Note that this is a great resource for your student as well if you happen to have a kid who has trouble keeping track of minor details like where s/he is supposed to be and when. (Anyone? Anyone at all?)
  3. FALL CONCESSIONS SIGNUPS ONGOING. Reminder that parents of HS band members are asked to sign up for at least three volunteering slots during the fall. PARENTS of FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES are especially needed for concession stand slots (we are the future, yo!), so please do not be intimidated or think you are somehow unqualified to help. There will be experienced folks there every week to make sure things run smoothly, and there is a thorough handbook available on the Band web site and posted in the concession stands. It’s super easy and no rocket science degree is required. Parents of students younger than HS age are also welcome, come one, come all! Please sign up to help do your part to support the bands and our students. Signupgenius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090f4baea62cab9-2017
  4. OTHER FALL VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES. Don’t want to pop popcorn or flip burgers on the grill? Not to worry, there are other ways that you can help! We also need adult volunteers to help load and unload equipment for away games, ride the buses to and chaperone at away games, and help hang up and take down senior banners for home games. Visit the signupgenius and pick your slot today.
  5. CONFUSED ABOUT THE READY GAME? You are not alone! The HS football game between Grandview and Bishop Ready scheduled for Sep 15 has changed locations several times (it’s not your imagination). While the game is officially a “home” game for Ready, it will be played on our home field in Grandview Heights, because Ready does not have its own home field. Among other things, this does mean that we will need to staff our concession stands that night, so please visit the signupgenius (link above) if you can help. We have been promised that there won’t be any other location changes for this game. Fingers crossed!
  6. FIRST ON-FIELD PERFORMANCE. Finally, a reminder that this week will mark the first on-field performance for the 2017 version of the GHHS Marching Band, when the football Bobcats take the field at home against Centennial on Friday at 7pm. (Watch your in-box this week for details from Mr. Hermann on arrival time, etc.) Even if you don’t have a student in the HS band, come on out and support our marching Bobcats as they get their first opportunity to show off the results of all the hard work they put in this summer. See you there – GO BOBCATS!
