Hello, Grandview Band families, and CAN YOU BELIEVE the school year is just about over? Yeah, me neither. Here's what's up with the Band programs this week:
HIGH SCHOOL UNIFORM ORDERS: Band Parent volunteers were in the schools last week fitting next year's freshmen and sophomores for band uniform items which must be purchased from the GHBPA. These items include a GHHS Marching Band logo polo shirt and shorts, white gloves, and white marching shoes. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ASK ALL RISING FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES to submit an order form, even if you already have hand-me-down items for your student to use. This helps the BPA ensure that all students have the items that they need. Returning members may also order items to replace lost, damaged, or outgrown uniform pieces. An order form and pricing will be available soon, and will need to be submitted by June 3.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND PERFORMANCES: Current HS Band students will be participating in the City's Blue Star Mother's event on Thursday May 27 (partial band), and the Memorial Day parade on Saturday May 29 (full band). Mr. Herrmann will be sharing the details of who, what, where, and what to wear, but we want to ensure that these events are at least on your radar since there has been so much scheduling uncertainty due to the public health situation.
NEW OFFICERS: New GHBPA officers for the 2021-22 school year have been elected, and if gives me great pleasure personally to welcome the following three new folks to the Board: Dot Keil (President), Molly Schmied (Secretary), and Jay Carini (Treasurer). Please join me in congratulating them, and thanking them for agreeing to be part of this effort! I'll be staying on as Communications Officer for 2021-22, and will also serve as Vice President. Also a big thank you to outgoing officers Karen Smith (President), Kate Lobley (Secretary), and Collin Wheeler(Treasurer) for their service!
VOLUNTEERS: We have had a great response to our recent pleas (and not a little bit of desperate begging) for volunteers, but don't you worry - there's always room for more! We've filled many of our committee chair positions for 2021-22 (we'll be announcing those soon), but there are still a few vacancies, so if you are willing and able, please feel free to reply to this message for more information. And be aware that almost all of our committees will be looking for additional volunteers at some point during the summer or the school year. For now, a HUGE thanks goes out to those of you who have already raised your hands or are about to do so - we will be in touch soon with more information. And to everyone else - please stay tuned and watch for opportunities to help out when you can.
INFORMATION SOURCES: just a reminder that there's a Bobcat Bands 101 page on our web site that details all of the activities of a "typical" year in the life of the Grandview Bands program. It's a useful resource for families who are new to the program, although as with all things these days, it is subject to change! You can also find all of the Band Director's and GHBPA's emails on the web site blog, if you are looking for details on upcoming events, and a calendar of Band activities as well.
