BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

4/24/2023

Hey, is anyone else SHOCKED that it's almost May and this school year is almost over? No? Just me? Well, read on anyway, for some close-to-year-end updates from the GH
Band Parents Association.
  1. GET INVOLVED! The GH Band Parents Association is in the process of recruiting new officers and committee leaders for the 2023-24 school year and we want YOU! You can click here to see a list of our current officer and chair positions. Have questions? Contact any of our current officers (president Dot Keil, VP/communications officer Julie Rutter, treasurer Jay Carini, or secretary Molly Schmied) for more information, or join us for our next regular meeting at 6:30pm on Thursday May 18 in the GHHS Band Room (enter through the room's external door that faces Fairview Ave). We welcome the involvement of our orchestra, middle school, and jazz ensemble families too, so don't be shy - everyone can contribute!
  2. CONCERTS THIS WEEK: Our spring concert performances wrap up this week with the middle school bands taking the stage on Wednesday at 6pm (5th and 6th grade) and 7pm (7th and 8th grades). Click here for a sneak peek at the concert program. Then the GHHS concert band and jazz ensemble will give their spring concert performance on Thursday at7pm, and we will also recognize and celebrate our graduating seniors at that time. Click here for that concert program. All performances in the GHHS auditorium. Hope to see you there!
  3. SENIOR PICNIC: The GH Band Parents Association sponsors an annual year-end picnic for the graduating seniors in our marching and concert band, jazz ensemble, and orchestra groups, at the home of one of our seniors. Please note this is a directors and students only event (no siblings, buddies, parents, significant others, etc, please), and is meant to be a last opportunity for the students to reminisce and trade stories and memories with the directors before leaving GHHS. Karen and Adam Smith have generously offered to host this year's picnic. The BPA will provide dinner, and the Smiths note that their pool will be open, so students are welcome to bring their suits. Sunday May 21, 6pm, 1228 Wyandotte Rd. Please click here to RSVP for your student by May 12, so we can have a head count for food and drink purposes. The BPA thanks band parent Jill Reichert for volunteering to organize this event!
  4. KINGS ISLAND EVENT: Just a reminder that if you have a seventh or eighth grade band/orchestra student, they will be performing together at school on the morning of Saturday May 6, and then spending the rest of the day together at Kings Island. Click here for full logistical and schedule details on our web site. WE STILL NEED CHAPERONES for this activity, so if you are a roller coaster aficionado or are otherwise willing to help, please reply to this message or contact Mr. Heath or Mr. Stanley to volunteer. Your admission ticket will be free!

  5. CAKE WALK WRAP-UP: in case you missed our series of photos and thank you posts on Facebook last week, we've got you covered! Check out the front page of our web site for updated (BIG!) fundraising numbers, never before seen videos, and a whole photo album of fun pictures from the 2023 Cake Walk event. Thanks again to all who supported and participated - it was a terrific and fun night for all!
