BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

11/8/2021

Good morning, GH Bands families! We hope your band students spent the whole weekend talking about what a great time they had at the OSU field trip on Friday!
Those students and parent chaperones we have heard from directly have pronounced the trip a rousing success, and the GHBPA couldn't be more thrilled. We are also very excited to see our Middle School bands in action this week, with their first in-person performances in almost two years. So much good stuff happening! Here are some additional notes and details:
  1. BIG BIG THANKS: The OSU field trip really was the first of its kind for Grandview Band students, and it took the hard work of a LOT of people to make it happen. The BPA want to specifically thank Kyle Mahan and the whole GH Food Services team, who had lunch organized and ready for our 200+ students even though we got back to school way earlier than expected. We are also very grateful to the 22 parent chaperones who helped us get the students to OSU and back safely. We definitely appreciate the support of the administration and teachers in both school buildings, as we know having 200+ students absent across eight grade levels for part of the school day was an unusual disruption. And finally, we are SUPER grateful to EVERYONE who helped us raise the funds to support this trip, through our Decal and sponsorship drives as well as our concessions operations. This event literally was made possible through the hard work of each and every one of you - and BPA says a BIG thank you to everyone who had a hand in it!
  2. OSU TRIP PHOTOS: Have you joined our Facebook group yet? Some chaperones shared photos of the field trip there, so check them out if you haven't already. (It's a private group, so search "GHBandParents" and ask to join if you are not yet a member.) If you were a chaperone and haven't shared your photos yet, feel free to post them there, too! We use the Facebook channel to share news, reminders, and other announcements as well as photos of current events, so it's a great place to stay in touch with all things Band related. Join us!
  3. MIDDLE SCHOOL CONCERT AND PROGRAM: Reminder that the 5th and 6th grade bands perform at 6pm, and the 7th and 8th grade bands at 7pm, this Wednesday Nov 10 in the gymnasium of the NEW Larson middle school. The program for Wednesday's concert is available in advance by clicking here. Feel free to bookmark it now to refer to on Wednesday, and/or print it out and bring it with you if you prefer a paper copy. (We'll also have a QR code available for you to scan on Wednesday evening.)
  4. 8TH GRADE CONCERT DRESS: For Wednesday's concert, eighth grade students are asked to wear their navy blue GH Bands logo polo shirt, khaki pants or skirt of appropriate length, and dress shoes and socks/hosiery. Most everyone should have shirt that fits after the October marching performance, but if there is anyone who does not have one, please reply to this email to let us know ASAP.
  5. 5TH, 6TH, AND 7TH GRADE CONCERT DRESS: Due to a nationwide shortage of navy blue polo shirts (no, seriously!) the BPA has been unable to secure navy blue GH Bands polos for the rest of the MS bands at this time. Therefore, Mr. Heath has established the following concert dress expectations for the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade bands: ANY white/light-colored shirt, top, or blouse; dark colored slacks/leggings or a skirt of appropriate length; and dress shoes and socks/hosiery.
