BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

5/23/2022

CONGRATULATIONS, GH music families - we've almost made it to the end of another school year. For those of you with graduating seniors: keep those eyes on the prize,
because graduation is just around the corner. So close you can taste it! For everyone with sixth and seventh graders: enjoy this fake school week while your campers are away at camp. You've earned it! And for everyone else: hang in there, friends, just four more days. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT! In the meantime, here are just a few year-end notes from the GH Band Parents Association:
  1. GHHS PERFORMANCES: students currently enrolled in GH Marching Band have two more potential performances this week. The Blue Star Mother's event kicks off the City's Memorial Day observances this Thursday evening, and then the GH Memorial Day parade takes place on Saturday morning. Mr. Herrmann will advise which students are expected to participate in the Thursday event, along with details about dress and report time for both events, later in the week. Stay tuned!
  2. OPEN HOUSE: from 12:30-2:30pm on Saturday following the parade, the GH Band Parents will host an open house event in Mr. Herrmann's honor, at the home of Bob and Julie Rutter, 1179 Broadview Avenue. Feel free to drop in any time to say goodbye and wish Mr. Herrmann well. No RSVP necessary, all are welcome!
  3. DIRECTOR SEARCH UPDATE: speaking of our leadership change....we are excited to share that all of the BPA Board members will be participating in interviews this week with a number of very exciting candidates to take the baton from Mr. Herrmann. Candidate finalists will also conduct a lesson with our students and be interviewed by a select student panel later in the week as well. We are very grateful to the GH administration for quickly crafting a process that allows students and parents to participate and have a voice in the selection of our new leader. And we are excited about the candidate pool and feeling very positive about our future!
  4. BAND CAMP REMINDERS: just a quick reminder to anyone who has a student enrolled in GHHS Marching Band for next year, materials for 2022 Band Camp are now available on our web site by clicking here. PLEASE NOTE that you must click all the way through to the end of the registration form (link available on the web site or you can also click here). We have a handful of people who have done part of the form but have not completed and submitted it. Note also that there is a separate form for Band Camp payments (also available on the web site, or by clicking here). All forms and payment are due by June 30. Please contact GHHS Principal Rob Brown to arrange for confidential financial assistance if needed - everyone goes to Band Camp, regardless of financial need. Oh, and hey, while you are thinking about Band Camp, feel free to swing by the signupgenius to sign up to help make it happen. It takes a village to host a Band Camp, you know!

  5. THANK YOU: finally, on behalf of all of the 2022-23 GHBPA Board members, please accept our HUGE THANK YOU, to everyone who volunteered for anything, throughout this crazy year. Bouncing back from two years of pandemic-suppressed fundraising activity, plus muddling through the challenges of the ongoing facilities project, hasn't been easy for anyone, but it was especially challenging for our group in a number of ways. So many of you stepped up to help ensure that our students had a great experience, and our organization raised a bunch of money, and for that we are truly grateful. We are also delighted to tell you that the BPA finished the year in great financial shape (again, thanks to the hard work of so many of you), setting us up well for the 2022-23 school year. And we couldn't have done any of that without the help of a whole lot of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and ENJOY YOUR SUMMERS!
