BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

Have you heard? The Cake Walk is back! We still can't gather in person, due to the ongoing coronavirus concerns, but the GHBPA is thrilled to be sponsoring several

virtual activities THIS WEEK to take the place of our beloved annual event. Full details are available here on the Band web site and in the 2020 Cake Walk Facebook group, but you can also get the basics below:

1. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Sign up here to donate a cake (homemade or purchased) or Graeters' gift card to be awarded as a prize for one of the week's events. (To be collected at some point after the Governor's stay-at-home order is lifted.)
2. DAILY CHALLENGES: join the Facebook group for daily challenges and contests!
3. CAKE WALK WINDOW SCAVENGER HUNT: from April 1 through April 8, post pictures of cakes in the windows of your home, and then go out in search of others around town. Downloadable cake pic available here, or make your own. Post pics of any cakes you and your family find on the 2020 Cake Walk Facebook page. Note that we band families are also encouraged to post a sign (also available here) showing how proud we are of our GH band members!
4. CAKE DECORATING CONTEST: bake and decorate a cake and take its picture, then watch for posts in the Facebook group on Friday April 3to enter the contest. There will be separate Facebook posts for two divisions (adults and students). Winners will be selected in each of three categories, including Most Bobcat Spirit, Most Creative, and Best Stay at Home Theme. Submit your photo before 5pm on April 3 and then tune it at 7pm to see the winners announced!
5. ENTER TO WIN: fill out this form for a chance to win a cake or other prize during the livestream event. One entry per person, students encouraged to enter. Names will be drawn during the livestream event on Friday. 
6. FACEBOOK LIVE CAKE WALK EVENT: don't forget to tune in at 7pm on Friday April 3 on the Facebook group for the first ever livestream Cake Walk event! Winners in the cake decorating contest will be announced, names will be drawn for other prizes, and perhaps a few other surprises are in store as well. You won't want to miss it! Not limited to band families, please spread the word and invite anyone who might enjoy a little virtual fun during these challenging times. Come one, come all!
7. 2020-21 OFFICERS: finally, a plea for your involvement. Several of our most active and involved band parents, including several officers and committee chairs, will be graduating this year along with their students.WE NEED NEW BLOOD! Please consider volunteering to serve as an officer or committee chair for the next school year. Details about the various roles are available here, and either the outgoing BPA President Melissa Cribbs or incoming BPA president Karen Smith will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.
