BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

7/5/2022

Good morning and happy July, Grandview music families and OH MY GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S JULY! Read on for some important updates and information, as summer is
slipping quickly by!
  1. WELCOME! For many of you this may be your first message from the Grandview Heights Band Parents, as we have been working on updating our mailing list for the 22-23 school year. Welcome, and we're glad you are here! The BPA provides support for ALL instrumental music students across ALL grades in Grandview Heights - so if you have a student in the 5th through 12th grades participating in orchestra, band, or one of our jazz groups - then we are here for you! This email group is our primary form of communication, but we also maintain a web page (click here to check it out) and a Facebook group (search GHBandParents and ask to join). Choose what works best for you to stay informed.

  2. THURSDAY NIGHT OUT! GHHS sophomore and Jazz Ensemble member Meeka Reese will be performing THIS THURSDAY JULY 7 at 8pm at Natalie's Grandview (945 King Ave), as part of a program to benefit the Berklee Summer Scholarship program - of which Meeka happens to be one of this year's recipients! Meeka will be performing along with along with the fabulous student jazz band from Fort Hayes, and some other special guests. We hope lots of Grandview will be able to come out and support Meeka, as well as this worthy cause! For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

  3. MEET THE DIRECTOR: In case you haven't heard the exciting news, we have a new GHHS Band Director this year! Her name is Jennifer Olis, and she will lead the HS marching and concert bands, the 8th grade band, and the jazz ensemble. She's also looking forward to collaborating with all of our other instrumental music programs and their leaders, to help grow and develop our music students across all grades and disciplines. To help her feel welcome and get her feet wet before school starts, the BPA is hosting a "Meet the Director" open house on Wednesday, July 20, from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the NEW Middle School commons. Even if you don't have a student in one of Mrs. Olis's groups this coming year, she would still be glad to meet you - so feel free to drop in and say hello any time!

  4. GHHS MARCHING BAND CAMP: THANK YOU to the many families who have submitted your forms and paperwork for GHHS Band Camp, which is now less than THREE WEEKS AWAY (if we still need something from your family you should have received an email reminder this weekend and we appreciate your speedy attention to that). We also still need SEVERAL MORE OVERNIGHT CHAPERONE volunteers! Band Camp really can't happen without this important help, so please click hereto visit the signupgenius and sign up if you can. Parents of SENIORS please note that we need one of you to step up and help us out with Thursday night in particular. Thank you!

  5. GHHS MB SUMMER SCHEDULE: As we enter the second half of the summer, we will start to see activity pick up for the students of the GHHS Marching Band heading into the busy fall marching season. Dates to be aware of include pre-camp rehearsal week (July 18-22), Band Camp at Otterbein University (July 24-29), picture day (Aug 10), Falco Park concert (Aug 14), first football game (Aug 19), and decal drive (Aug 21). More details to come, of course, but it helps to start marking your calendars now.

  6. GHHS MB PICTURE DAY: As noted above, fall picture day for the GHHS Marching Band will be on Wed. Aug 10 (timing and other details TBD). We will take a full group photo as well as individual photos of seniors for their senior marching band banners that day. Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for further details.
