BAND PARENT'S UPDATE

Greetings, GHHS Marching Band families! It all starts next week! Please read on for important reminders and updates as we approach pre-camp week!

1. PRE-CAMP REHEARSAL WEEK: The GHHS Marching Band will officially kick off its 2023 season NEXT MONDAY JULY 17, when squad leaders and percussionists report for the first day of pre-camp rehearsals. Let's do this, Bobcats! The pre-camp rehearsal schedule, with full details on who needs to be where on what days and by when, is available by clicking here. Please remind your student to come prepared each daywith appropriate marching shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses/hat, and a WATER BOTTLE as there will be outdoor marching each day of rehearsal. Also, returning members should bring their flip folders every day (new members will receive theirs next week). 
2. VOLUNTEERS AND BACKGROUND CHECKS: A HUGE thank you goes out to all the parents who have volunteered to help with Band Camp, and to Band Parent Lisa Gladman for helping to coordinate that effort. Lisa has been in touch with each of you regarding your background check status - please make sure yours is up to date in time to fulfill your volunteer slot. And hey, guess what? We still have room for one more! At press time there was a single volunteer slot still waiting to be filled, so please click here and see if you can help us out. Thank you thank you thank you!
3. BAND PARENTS MEETING: The next BPA meeting will actually also be next week, on Thursday July 20, at 6:30pm in the GHHS Band Room. We had a GREAT showing with some new faces at the last meeting, and we hope to see everyone again and THEN SOME! If you are looking for a way to get involved, or just want to learn more about what we do, we would love to see you there. Please join us!
4. CAMP! CAMP! CAMP! AND PARENT INFO SESSIONS: It will be time for Band Camp check-in on Sunday July 23 before you know it! Got questions? We got answers! Click here for the check-in day schedule and report times. Click here for a handy packing list. Click here for the form that must be filled out and signed by a doctor for each medication you will send to Camp with your student. And click here to remind your student of the Band Camp rules. ALSO AS AN ADDED BONUS, the Band Parents Assc will be offering TWO identical and very brief (15-minute) parent information sessions at 1:45pm and 2:30pm. We'll talk about Band Camp, the Band Parents Association, and what a typical year will look like for you and your student. Especially valuable for freshmen and any other new families, but of course ALL ARE WELCOME. Our ridiculously personable and endlessly entertaining BPA President Dot Keil will lead the conversation, and I promise, no one is ever bored in Dot's presence. Prove me wrong.

   GROUP PHOTO DAY: please mark your student's calendar NOW for group photo day on August 9, when we will take a full formal uniform group photo of the entire band (for use in the football program, yearbook, etc). This date is set by the athletic department and cannot be adjusted. All fall teams will be photographed between 9am and 2pm that day, and we will provide more information on a specific time for the Marching Band photo (and call time and uniform details) when we have them.

   MEET THE FOOTBALL TEAM PEP RALLY AND CORNHOLE FUNDRAISER: The GHHS Marching Band will perform at the Meet the Team pep rally for the GHHS football team on Saturday August 5 at 3pmin the GHHS gymnasium. The Touchdown Club cordially invites all Band families to join for the pep rally as well as the cornhole fundraiser to follow at the Columbus Italian Club - please click here for tickets to enter the cornhole tournament if you are so inclined!

   ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES: finally, just a reminder from Mrs. Olis that all rehearsals and performances are required events. If your student will miss an event, please be certain to email her in advance to let her know.
