BAND PARENTS' UPDATE

11/14/2022

The GH Band Parents Association wants to say a HUGE congratulations to our Grandview Heights High School Boys' Soccer team, who brought home their second
consecutive State championship this weekend! We are proud of all of our soccer 'Cats, but especially Christian Cunningham, Ronan Hayes, Finn McKelvey, Graham Nelson, Charlie Russell, and Lucas Schmied, whom we also proudly claim as part of our GHHS Band team too. Congrats to these young men and their families!
  1. CONCERT WEEK! The 2022 Concert season continues this week with opening concerts for several of our performing groups. The GH Orchestra kicks things off on Tuesday November 15, with their fall concert at 7:00pm in the commons of the NEW Larson Middle School. Then our Middle School Bands take center stage on Wednesday November 16, in the gymnasium of the OLD Larson Middle School, with the Fifth and Sixth Grade Bands performing at 6:00pm and the Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands at 7:00pm. You can find programs for both concerts by clicking here - bookmark them in advance to be ready for the show!
  2. MIDDLE SCHOOL SHIRTS: If you have a middle school band or orchestra member, we do expect their shirt to be delivered to them at school this week, but please be aware that they may not receive it until the DAY OF their concert. We apologize for the tight timeline - please remind your student to bring it home with them the day they receive it! As a reminder, middle school orchestra students will wear their black GH Orchestra t-shirt with KHAKI pants, leggings, or skirt; middle school band members will wear their navy GH Bands t-shirt (or polo shirt, for the 8th grade band) with khaki pants, leggings, or skirt.
  3. 5/6 FIELD TRIP AND CHAPERONES! Our 5th and 6th grade students are heading to OSU for the Celebration of Music Youth Concert on Friday, December 2! Parents of 5th and 6th grade students in the orchestra and band should have received a permission slip notice via ParentSquare. (NOTE that you may need to click on "Forms/Permission" in your ParentSquare account, to find and submit the form). Any parents interested in volunteering as a chaperone for the trip (time commitment roughly 8am to 1pm that day) should click here to fill out a separate form for that. Both forms due by November 18. The GHBPA is proud to underwrite this fun educational opportunity for our students, thanks to the fundraising efforts of members like you!
  4. GH MUSICIANS ABOUT TOWN! Speaking of proud, it turns our the soccer players  weren't the only Grandview students out pushing themselves to new limits this weekend! GHHS band and orchestra members Carmen Cunningham and Aylish O'Harra performed this weekend as members of the Columbus Youth Symphony Orchestra's Rerpertory Orchestra on Saturday evening. Eighth graders Ella Kinsinger and Max McCullough spent the day on Saturday participating in the OMEA District 15 Middle School Honors Band at Thomas Worthington High School. And GHHS musicians Liv Glaser, Ali Hamm, Alayna Lee, Reece Mayfield, Colin Parker, and Alex Young all attended the two-day Capital University Band Festival, where they participated in masterclasses with Conservatory faculty and performed in one of three honor bands. We love seeing our GH performing artists exploring additional performance opportunities like these! If you are interested in learning more or finding out how your student can get involved in opportunities like this, please contact your student's director for more information.

  5. BAND PARENTS MEETING: Finally, please join us on Thursday, November 17, at 6:30pm in the NEW Larson Middle School media center for the November meeting of the Grandview Heights Band Parents Association. We would love to see you there!
