The last few months have brought significant growth and change to our band program. The hybrid schedule was a blessing to provide students more individualized instruction in the band room and our pivot to ‘All-In’ last month “got the band back together.” Mr. Heath and I are elated to see and hear the students together each day. They have grown significantly in just the last month.
This update will include several announcements regarding the end of the 2020-2021 school year - including a performance schedule and additional information regarding the upcoming “moving” summer. Note: 8th grade band parents - you are receiving a copy so you can mark your calendars for students transitioning to HS Band next year. GHHS Bands - Spring ‘Concert’ - Wednesday, May 5 - 7:00PM (Weather Permitting) We are very excited to announce a public performance by the GHHS Bands on Wednesday, May 5th. The performance will feature the Jazz Ensemble and the ‘Pride of Grandview Heights’ Marching Band. Their performances will take place in Bobcat Stadium where we can socially distance and enjoy a wonderful evening of music while honoring our graduating seniors. Jazz Ensemble will perform several selections from various styles (swing, latin, funk) and the Marching Band will perform the 2021 Senior Show with music selected by our seniors. I will be requesting all spring athletes be released by 6:00 to provide time for dinner and a shower. Additional details regarding the concert will be released in the coming weeks. Jazz Ensemble @ Vocal Music Department ‘Cabaret’ - Thursday, May 6 The Cabaret is back! The Jazz Ensemble will perform in conjunction with students from vocal music on Thursday, May 6 in the GHHS Auditorium. More details to follow! Blue Star Mothers Ceremony - Thursday, May 27 The band has been invited to return to the Blue Star Mothers Ceremony on Thursday, May 27th. This will include graduating seniors and incoming squad leaders/leadership. Mark your calendars!! Details to be released in May. Memorial Weekend Parade - Saturday, May 29 The Marching Band will also be participating in the annual Memorial Weekend Parade on Saturday, May 29. Final details on the parade have not been released but I didn’t want to wait to announce our invitation. Mark your calendars! Details to be released in May. ‘Moving’ Summer - June 1 through August 1 This summer, the staff and students of GHHS will move out and set up in the new middle school for approx. 18 months. All students who perform on personally-owned instruments will take them home at the end of the school year. Students who perform on school-owned instruments (low reeds, baritones/euphoniums, percussion/drumline) will make arrangements with Mr. Herrmann regarding summer options. More details to follow! 2021-2022 “Pride of Grandview Heights” Preseason Schedule Most of the pre-season schedule for marching band has been finalized. Please mark your calendars!!!
