BAND DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

1/17/2018

To all; OMEA High School Solo & Ensemble Event is a week and a half away!  This email contains all
pertinent information for the event.  Please read carefully.

Date/Location:
Saturday, January 27, 2017
Reynoldsburg High School - Summit Campus
8579 Summit Rd.
Reynoldsburg, OH  43068

Student Dress:
Students should dress professionally out of respect for the adjudicator and audience in attendance.  Gentlemen: dress pants/khakis, button down shirt, tie or sweater encouraged, dress shoes and socks.  Ladies: long skirt or dress pants, short or long sleeve blouse (no exposed shoulders), dress shoes or flats.  If students have questions; please take a picture of your outfit before Friday and review with myself, Mr. Heath, or Mr. Warburton for feedback.

Student Arrival/Process:
  • Students should arrive 45 minutes to 1 hour before your stated performance time; carpooling is encouraged but not required.
  • Utilizing the building maps linked below, proceed to your warm up room (Brass - E205, Woodwinds - E201, E203, Strings - C126).
  • Warm up your instrument to room temperature by playing, at a moderate dynamic, exercises and scales (examples would be from our HS Band method book).
  • I will meet you at the warm up room or outside your performance room - solo/ensemble dependent.
  • Final intonation adjustments will be made in your performance room, as they will likely be a different temperature than the warm up room.

OMEA Rules of Note:
  • Under no circumstances are audio/video recordings or pictures of any kind to be made in a warm up room, performance area, or sight reading room at any time. Directors and teachers must inform their students, parents, and friends of participants that failure to comply may result in consequences up to and including disqualification.
  • All electronic devices including but not limited to: Cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, computers, pagers and other electronic devices are to be turned off in all performance areas. Directors and teachers must inform their students, parents, and friends of participants that failure to comply may result in consequences up to and including disqualification.
  • Professionalism and proper decorum are expected at all times. Improper behavior/conduct, destruction of property (restitution required), or non-cooperation with event officials by any participant, director, chaperone, or other school representative may result in consequences up to and including disqualification and/or suspension from future participation.

Parents:
You are strongly encouraged to attend and enjoy your student’s performance next Saturday.  I have no doubt your student would appreciate the support.  All performances are free and open to the public.

Parking/Interior Maps:
A zip file named “RHS Maps.zip” is attached to this email.  It contains three files: (1) Parking and Entrance Map _Final_.pdf (2) Building Map 1st Floor (Final)2018.pdf (3) Building Map 2nd Floor (Final)2018.pdf.  The exterior map provides detail for parking and the interior maps are self explanatory.  I will print packets for all performers and hand out later this week.  If the attachments do not come through; please download and print from this Dropbox folder: https://www.dropbox.com/s/irjyhx43g641elx/RHS%20Maps.zip?dl=0
