BAND DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

10/6/2021

Congratulations to everyone on an unforgettable 8th Grade Band Night!  The 8th graders enjoyed their experience and have been talking about it this week like it was
yesterday.  GHMB members should be proud of themselves for providing such a positive environment.
We’re on the road this week at Columbus Academy as well as the Community Lawn Concert on Sunday afternoon.  The time for the concert has been pushed back to 4:00PM.  Details for Friday’s game as well as Sunday are below.

Traditional Uniform - Reminder
The band will transition to its ‘traditional’ or ‘formal’ uniform this week.  There are several components to the uniform:
  • Jacket
  • Trousers/Pants
  • Row Shirt
  • White Marching Shoes
  • White Gloves (except percussion)
  • Long White Socks
  • Hat

Traditional Uniform - Policies and Procedures - Reminder
  • All uniform parts listed above are required - students who do not pass inspection will not march at halftime.  Parents - please make sure your student has all items before leaving the house - especially LONG white socks, gloves (if needed) and their Row Shirt.
  • All members must be ‘fully dressed’ unless instructed otherwise by the director(s).  This includes jackets fully zipped, hats on, etc.
  • Accommodations will be made in extreme temperature situations.  Example - students will be instructed to remove their band jacket and fold to sit on top of their band hat.
  • Uniforms (jacket, pants, hats, parkas) are checked out and checked back in before/after each use.  Students are required to rehang all items and turn in all items before they are dismissed.
  • An additional time marker has been added below (Band Room Opens) - students must be dressed and in their seats by Call/Dress time.  Please plan accordingly.
  • Any staining of the uniform during the marching band season will be the financial responsibility of the student.  They are required to have the uniform part dry cleaned before the next performance.  Uniforms can only be dry cleaned; no exceptions.

Community Lawn Concert - Sunday, October 10, New Time - 4:00PM
During CAKE WEEK 2021, the GHBPA offered a marching band lawn concert as a silent auction item raising over $500 for Grandview band students.  Congratulations to Nichole Ferris on the winning bid for a private music performance on her front lawn with our marching band students!  The GHBPA raises funds to support students in grades 5-12 with school instrument purchases & repair, uniform purchases & maintenance, scholarships, music licensing fees and more.
Students are responsible for transportation to/from the event.  The band room will be open from 3:15-3:45PM for instrument pick-up and for 30 minutes after the performance for drop-off.  See schedule below.
If your student has a conflict - please submit an absence request - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSciR-gNeOxFUPPtRHfeX53ukT2sHhpW2i9lIWE7fDwiKalnkA/viewform
