BAND DIRECTOR'S UPDATE

Good morning everyone!
I'll be away at the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Development

Conference on Thursday Jan 31 and Friday Feb 1.  In my absence, the members of the GH Jazz Ensemble should complete the following Schoology discussion/assignment.
The 'Featured Artist Concert' is approximately six weeks away.  You have created a strong base of knowledge and proficiency on your individual parts as well as ensemble cohesiveness.  The next two weeks are very important in our preparation.  On Feb. 6, a guest clinician will provide you 'clear, new ears' feedback on our progress so far; then on Feb. 13, Bryan Olsheski (guest artist) and Zach Compston (Jazz Arts Group) will be working with you to take our preparation to the next level.  
To enhance your preparation, complete the following discussion forum assignment by Monday, February 4 11:59PM.  You will be given time during class on Jan 31, Feb 1, and Feb 4. 

1. Listen to all eight reference recordings. in the March 2019 - Featured Artist Concert folder.
2. Select two (2) from the list to focus your individual studies and re-listen with your individual part in front of you for study.
3. For your first selection, post a list of critiques (min. 3) of your current preparation on your part.  Example: "During the solo section, I'm not adjusting my dynamics appropriately to yield to the soloist."
4. For your second selection, post a list of critiques (min. 3) of the band's preparation.  Limit your comments to the ensemble; not individual players.  Example: "At rehearsal X, the ensemble performs with inconsistent tempo, losing the shared concept of swing for this song."
5. Finally, select two (2) of your colleague's ensemble critiques and provide an "agreement or disagreement" with supporting statement.  Example: "The ensemble does perform with inconsistent tempo at rehearsal X, especially in measures Y-Z due to the syncopated nature of the parts."
