BAND DIRECTOR'S UPDATE - 8th grade edition

9/14/2022

Dear 8th Grade Band Parents,
The 8th grade band will be participating in the halftime show at the GHHS football
game on Friday, September 16. All students are required to perform at halftime. Halftime typically occurs around 8:15pm.

Schedule

6:00pm: Meet in the band room with your instrument to warm up with the high school band and run through music.
6:30pm: March over with the HS marching band to the stadium to watch the HS band pregame performance.
6:45pm: HS band pregame performance. The 8th grade band will watch this performance from the sidelines and then join the high school band in the stands following pregame to play stand tunes during the 1st and 2nd quarters.
Approx. 8:00-8:15pm: Follow Mrs. Olis to the home side of the track in your staging area for the performance. Wait and watch the away band’s performance.
Approx 8:15-8:30pm- Enter the field from the home side in your predetermined spot on the field to perform “25 or 6 to 4” and “Smoke on the Water.”  Exit the field with the HS band.
8:30pm: Following the performance, all 8th grade band students will walk back to the school with Mr. Stanley to put away their instruments. Those students who would like to return and sit with the HS marching band for the remainder of the game are invited to do so and will walk back with Mr. Stanley. Those who would like to leave are free to go at this time. Students who choose to stay should bring money with them for concessions (HS band goes to concession during the 3rd quarter).

Dress for the game is navy band polo on top, shorts/jeans/khakis on bottom (no holes in pants, please), and tennis shoes.

This is a very exciting opportunity for the Grandview Bands!  We hope that all participating find this to be an enjoyable and fun experience! Thank you parents for your cooperation and we will see you on Friday, September 16!

Musically Yours,
Jennifer Olis
