Greetings GHHS Marching Band families! We wanted to share a quick summer update as we approach the start of pre-camp rehearsals and then 2025 BAND CAMP. Please read on _______________________
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Please click here to visit the signupgenius and sign up for one of the Band Camp 2025 volunteer slots RIGHT AWAY! These jobs are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for us to pull off a successful band camp experience for our students, ESPECIALLY the overnight chaperone roles. Help is also needed on check-in day, July 20th, and camp return day, July 25th. Please don’t wait – sign up TODAY, and then click hereto confirm that your background check is up to date. _______________________ UNIFORM UPDATE: Astute readers of our web site have noticed that we are usually taking orders for summer uniform items (polo shirt, athletic shorts, shoes, and gloves) right around this time of year. We are not quite ready to take those orders yet but please stay tuned and be ready to act – there will likely be a short turnaround time to ensure we have our students uniformed in time for their first performance (Falco Park concert on August 10 at 7pm). Regarding the student’s formal marching uniform (pants, jacket, and hat), those items belong to the school and are stored there throughout the season. Parent volunteers will be visiting rehearsals (likely after Band Camp) to get all returning and new students fitted for and assigned to a formal uniform. _____________________ PRE-CAMP REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: GHHS Marching Band’s summer experience kicks off with rehearsals the week before Band Camp, beginning on Monday, July 14. Different students report for rehearsals on different days, so please make sure you click here to figure out when your student is expected to show up. Please remember that all absences should be cleared with Mrs. Olis (GHBOB does not get involved with attendance issues), you can email her by clicking here. _______________________ PREPARING FOR CAMP: finally, a reminder that everything you need to know about getting ready for and coming to Band Camp is available on our web site by clicking here. You can click here for a handy packing list, and click here, here, and here for the forms necessary to take medicine AT and/or bring medicine TO camp. Click here for the report day (Sunday July 20th) schedule – students report and check in in “waves,” so please be sure you understand when your student is due to show up. _______________________ AFTER CAMP: life comes at you fast! The students of the marching band have several evening rehearsals between the end of Band Camp and the start of the school year (click here for the schedule). The students’ first official performance is on August 10 at Falco Park in Marble Cliff at 7:00pm, where they will give a free (non-marching) concert featuring many of the songs from the upcoming football season shows. GHBOB’s first big fundraiser of the year, the annual Decal Drive, is August 17. All students are required to participate and we will again ask for a lot of volunteer support, so please mark your family’s calendar now and plan to help us out. We know this may seem like a lot, especially for new families, but we promise that it’s a lot of fun and your student will have great experiences and make great memories too!
