REMINDER that the Calendar is available here.
Wow!!! What a truly great first football Friday night! The band performed to a wonderful crowd who thoroughly enjoyed our first show, “Bruno Mars”. A big thank you to everyone who performed and volunteered at the first football game. The Grandview Band kids (and parents) continue to prove to be AMAZING!
Some reminders for this week: Evening Rehearsals There are four Evening Rehearsals for this season and that number will not increase. All four rehearsals are considered required and will be calculated into your grade. Exceptions to the requirement are (1) for athletes who have traveling matches which return later than 9:00PM on the dates listed above, or, (2) on a case-by-case basis as needed. Work and non-Grandview Heights activities should be scheduled around Evening Rehearsals; please submit the dates above to your work management or advisors. Our second night rehearsal is Thursday, September 12th, 8:00-10:00PM. Football Game: 8/30 Away @ Columbus West - 7:00PM Uniform: Summer Call Time/Attendance: 5:15pm Load-Out 5:30pm Depart: 5:45pm Pregame: ~6:40pm (we are doing a combined pregame with West) Kick Off: 7:00pm Summer Uniform - REMINDER The band will be performing in their Summer uniform for at least the first two games. Consistency from student to student is very important. All students are expected to follow these guidelines:
Flip Folders Each band member received a flip folder from the band at the beginning of the season. The flip folder allows your student to conveniently keep their music organized and transport it easily. If your student has misplaced the flip, it is their responsibility to replace it. Flip folders are available from Stanton’s Sheet Music (330 South Fourth St), Music & Arts (Graceland Shopping Center), Buckeye Brass (7445 Montgomery Dr, Plain City), or online. Flip folders come standard with 5 ‘windows.’ It is recommended you purchase extra windows to accommodate all the music distributed. The first flip folder check will be at our next Thursday night rehearsal. Ox Roast Pit Lighting - Thursday, September 5 The Bobcat Boosters have decided to continue to host the Ox Roast Pit Lighting on Thursday evening this year. All band members will be responsible for reporting to the Stevenson Elementary parking lot at approx. 8:30pm (time will be confirmed next week) on Thursday, September 5. Students will be responsible for transportation to Stevenson. We will line up at Stevenson, march down to the Ox Roast, perform songs throughout the event, then march out. We should be finished around 10:15pm. Students can then return to the band room to drop off instruments. NOTE: Yes, this means all instruments (including baritone, sousaphone, and drums) will need to transport their instruments to and from Stevenson. Orlando Trip Registration NOW OPEN! We are incredibly excited to announce our first instrumental trip in many years, open to members of ALL High School Bands and High School Orchestra! This trip is more than just a chance to showcase our students’ talents and provide expanded learning opportunities; it's an opportunity to bond as a group, experience new environments, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Participation in the trip is optional, but highly encouraged, as each ensemble will benefit greatly from the participation of as many members as possible. There are approximately 105 spots available for this trip. The closer we come to filling all 105 bus seats, the lower we can keep the cost of the trip. In order to assess whether or not there is strong interest in this trip, we ask that anyone who plans to participate please register online right away. Registration is due on September 16th and the first security deposit and insurance premium (if selected) is due September 23rd. Simply registering does not cost you any money, but we will use those registrations to assess the level of interest in the trip. Between September 16th and the 23rd (before your first deposit payment will be due), we plan to make the “go/no go” decision, based on the number of students from each group that will attend. There are seats available on the buses for chaperones (parents/guardians). If you (parent/guardian) would like to attend the trip as a chaperone, the registration deadline and trip fee applies to you as well. After we get a preliminary count on the number of people going on the trip, we may open the remaining seats, if any, to additional family members (brothers, sisters, etc.). Please remember that this is not a family vacation and the trip cannot be adjusted to what you do and do not want to do; it is a package deal. If you sign up, you are expected to attend the trip in its full itinerary. If you are a parent/guardian and sign up to go, there will be expectations for you to help with various supervisory and chaperone responsibilities. Please see the Parent Square message sent on August 21 for more information. Band Handbook Believe it or not, there is a band handbook that gives parents and students tons of information about the band program! I am resurrecting it this year to help keep us all accountable. Please read through the handbook with your parent/guardian and fill out the google form at the end stating you have read the material. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uq2jr1Fs2pFa8T10fxYgjaZGnSYeT1Xm/edit Upcoming Events August 8/30 Away @ Columbus West 9/2 Labor Day - NO SCHOOL 9/5 Ox Roast Performance, Approx. 8:30-10:15pm 9/6 Home vs. Northridge (Alumni Night) Lastly, please don’t hesitate to reply to any updates or contact me via email or by phone.
