Another great win for the Bobcats and a great performance by the GHMB at halftime!!! Thank you to the band members for also partnering with the band members from Columbus West for pregame. It is always fun to come together to make music with one another. We are working hard on halftime show 2 this week, “80s/90s Rock”. Our plan is to debut this show next Friday (the 13th) at Bexley.
Flip Folders Each band member received a flip folder from the band at the beginning of their freshman year. The flip folder allows your student to conveniently keep their music organized and transport it easily. If your student has misplaced their flip, it is their responsibility to replace it. Flip folders are available from Stanton’s Sheet Music (330 South Fourth St), Music & Arts (Graceland Shopping Center), Buckeye Brass (7445 Montgomery Dr, Plain City), or online. Flip folders come standard with 5 ‘windows.’ It is recommended you purchase extra windows to accommodate all the music distributed. Music/Flip Folders will be checked and periodically throughout the season and is calculated into your student’s grade as class preparation. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The first flip folder check will be at our next Thursday night rehearsal. Evening Rehearsals We have three more Evening Rehearsals for this season and that number will not increase. All three rehearsals are considered required and will be calculated into your grade. Exceptions to the requirement are (1) for athletes who have traveling matches which return later than 9:00PM, or, (2) on a case-by-case basis as needed. Work and non-Grandview Heights activities should be scheduled around Evening Rehearsals; please submit the dates above to your work management or advisors. Our next night rehearsal is THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th, 8:00-10:00pm. Ox Roast Pit Lighting - THIS Thursday, September 5 The Bobcat Boosters decided last year to move the Ox Roast Pit Lighting to Thursday evening instead of after the football game on Friday. All band members will be responsible for reporting to the Stevenson Elementary parking lot at 9:00pm on Thursday, September 5. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from Stevenson, including instruments. We will line up at Stevenson, march down to the Ox Roast, perform songs throughout the event, then march out. We should be finished around 10:15pm. Once we are finished, students will have 20 minutes to return to the band room to drop off instruments. Dress is summer uniform. NOTE: All large instruments (baritone, sousaphone, and drums) will need to transport their instruments to and from Stevenson. Orlando Trip Registration NOW OPEN! We are incredibly excited to announce our first instrumental trip in many years, open to members of ALL High School Bands and High School Orchestra! This trip is more than just a chance to showcase our students’ talents and provide expanded learning opportunities; it's an opportunity to bond as a group, experience new environments, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Participation in the trip is optional, but highly encouraged, as each ensemble will benefit greatly from the participation of as many members as possible. There are approximately 105 spots available for this trip. The closer we come to filling all 105 bus seats, the lower we can keep the cost of the trip. In order to assess whether or not there is strong interest in this trip, we ask that anyone who plans to participate please register online right away. Registration is due on September 16th and the first security deposit and insurance premium (if selected) is due September 23rd. Simply registering does not cost you any money, but we will use those registrations to assess the level of interest in the trip. Between September 16th and the 23rd (before your first deposit payment will be due), we plan to make the “go/no go” decision, based on the number of students from each group that will attend. There are seats available on the buses for chaperones (parents/guardians). If you (parent/guardian) would like to attend the trip as a chaperone, the registration deadline and trip fee applies to you as well. After we get a preliminary count on the number of people going on the trip, we may open the remaining seats, if any, to additional family members (brothers, sisters, etc.). Please remember that this is not a family vacation and the trip cannot be adjusted to what you do and do not want to do; it is a package deal. If you sign up, you are expected to attend the trip in its full itinerary. If you are a parent/guardian and sign up to go, there will be expectations for you to help with various supervisory and chaperone responsibilities. Please see the Parent Square message sent on August 21 for more information. Band Handbook Believe it or not, there is a band handbook that gives parents and students tons of information about the band program! I am resurrecting it this year to help keep us all accountable. Please read through the handbook with your parent/guardian and fill out the google form at the end stating you have read the material. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uq2jr1Fs2pFa8T10fxYgjaZGnSYeT1Xm/edit Summer Uniform The band will continue performing in their Summer uniforms this week.
