GHBOB UPDATE

7/31/2024

Greetings everyone! The next school year is fast approaching, and we have lots of news to share from the Grandview Heights Band & Orchestra Boosters. Please read on for
details!
  1. ANOTHER BAND CAMP IN THE BOOKS: Reports from the staff and students make it sound like Band Camp 2024 was yet another rousing success. Our students worked really hard and got a lot of work done preparing for the upcoming season, and also really bonded as a team and had a lot of fun together. And that's pretty much what Band Camp is all about! BIG THANKS AND HUGE KUDOS go out to our new team of Band Camp organizers, including Katie Russell, Nate Russell, and Eloise Jones. We also could not make this work without a LEGION of other parent helpers, including our nursing corps of Jen Hayes, Catt Dimes, Melissa McKelvey, and Andy Betz; our overnight chaperones including Eloise and Nate, as well as Bob Rutter, Molly Schmied, Dave Schmied, Rick Kinsinger, Dawn Ritzman, Sark Mahdasian, Eileen Critchley, Jay McKelvey, and Angela Russell; our truck drivers James Herlihy (who also donated the use of his truck) and Dave again; and check-in and return day volunteers including Sarah Knouff, Matt Knouff, and Phil Miller, plus Eloise, Katie, Angela, Molly, Dawn, and Dave. And of course, our amazing GHHS Band Director Jenn Olis and Assistant Marching Band Director Thomas Stanley, who put in the hard work that really makes Band Camp happen. Thank you all! Several of the parents who spent time at camp shared their photos and videos, and you can click here to see the full collection of them if you missed them on Facebook last week. THANK YOU to everyone who made this past week possible, including our hard-working and mostly well-behaved students!
  2. VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL! Please mark your calendars for August 18 from 5-7pm, when GHBOB will conduct its annual Decal Drive - the first of three major fundraising events for our organization. All HS instrumental musicians from Band, Jazz, and Orchestra will go door-to-door in small groups around Grandview, seeking donations in support of our programs. Several adult volunteers will be needed as well, to drive and chaperone the groups. Shortly thereafter our fall football season kicks off, and our second major fundraising initiative - running the concessions operation for all home varsity and JV football games - comes with it. Funds we raise from these activities are used to support all students in all grades and all groups, so please know that we welcome ALL parents to sign up to help - you don't have to have a HS student! Signupgeniuses coming soon - stay tuned.

  3. MARCHING BAND SENIOR BANNER PHOTOS: We will take photos for all GHHS Marching Band seniors for their 2024 senior banners on MONDAY AUGUST 5, beginning at 7:30pm at the GHHS Band Room (prior to evening rehearsal that night). Seniors should arrive at 7:30 to get changed into their fall uniform and grab their instrument, so we can take most of the photos before rehearsal begins. Please reply to this message ASAP if your senior student will not be at that rehearsal for some reason so that we can make other arrangements for their photo.

  4. MARCHING BAND FALL UNIFORM FITTINGS: If your GHHS Marching Band student still needs to be fitted for their fall uniform, we will complete that during the MON AUGUST 5 evening rehearsal as well. (At last check, this list includes Sam Flick, Luke Lobao, Lexy Smith, Sophia Weber, and Sophie Welsh.) Again, please let us know if your student will not be at that rehearsal so that we can make other arrangements for their fitting.

  5. UPCOMING FAMILY FUN EVENTS FOR ALL AGES! The Grandview Heights Touchdown Club is hosting a meet the football team pep rally and fundraiser onSaturday August 10. The pep rally will be from 4-5pm in the GHHS Gymnasium, followed by a cornhole tournaments and family fun night at the Columbus Italian Club from 5-10pm. Your GHHS Marching Band will perform at the pep rally and EVERYONE is welcome there, and at the event after where there will be food, drink, games, and other entertainment. Click here for more details, or click here to enter the cornhole tournament. Then make it an all-Bobcat weekend by joining the GHHS Marching Band on Sunday August 11, at 7pm in Falco Park in Marble Cliff, for their annual concert to kick off the 2024 season. The band will play selections from its 2024 planned shows, and the concert is free and open to the public. Bring a chair or blanket and all your friends, and enjoy an evening of music in the park!
  6. A NOTE ABOUT OUR DISTRIBUTION LIST: You may have noticed the fine print up above, detailing who received this message. Until the school year starts, we won't likely have access to updated rosters for the middle school groups, so for now we are including all families who had a 5, 6, or 7th grade instrumental music student last year. If your student has dropped out of band or orchestra for the coming school year, you can unsubscribe from our mailing list using the link below. Otherwise, we hope you'll stay with us through another busy and exciting school year!
