GHBOB UPDATE

8/7/2024

Greetings, GHBOB families! We have exciting events for families coming up, plus some important volunteer opportunities and other key details for students. LOTS of
news to share below, please read on!
  1. GHHS BAND CAMP GROUP AND ROW PHOTOS: Beloved friend of the GHBOB and professional photographer Ken Heigel came to Otterbein to take group and row photos of our GHHS students on the last day of camp. You can click here to see the photos, which are also free to you to download, share, and enjoy.
  2. DECAL DRIVE VOLUNTEERS: The GHBOB Decal Drive is on Sunday August 18, from 5-7pm. This is the first leg of our annual fundraising journey, and it is a SUPER IMPORTANT kickoff to our fundraising efforts for the year. Plus, it's also a well-known and much loved community event - you wouldn't believe how many people look forward to having our students knock on their doors to collect donations and hand out decals! ALL HS INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC STUDENTS are required to participate, so please mark your student's calendar. In addition we need a number of adult volunteers to drive student groups around town and chaperone their fundraising efforts, and take care of some other important tasks. Please click here to sign up to help, and then click here to make sure your background check is up to date.

  3. CAN YOU TAKE A YARD SIGN? Another way you can help with Decal Drive is to host a yard sign for the week preceding the Decal Drive event. If you are willing to offer your yard, please click here to email Decal Drive chair Molly Schmied and include your name and street address. Volunteers will place the sign in your yard on Monday August 12, and will come and pick it up again about a week later, after the Decal Drive is over.

  4. SPONSOR SUGGESTIONS? In conjunction with and to supplement the Decal Drive, GHBOB also seeks sponsorship support from local businesses. GHBOB member Mona Barber is leading our GHBOB sponsorship drive this summer, and she wants your help! Do you know a business owner who would benefit from reaching our Band and Orchestra families? Web site and program ad/logo placement are just a few benefits of sponsoring our band and orchestra programs (you can click here to learn about more of the benefits). If you have suggestions for contacts we should be making, or otherwise would like to help with this effort, please reply to this message or click here to contact Mona directly and share your intel. Thanks!

  5. PHOTO DAY: TODAY (WEDS AUG 7) is the GH Athletic Dept's photo day, when yearbook/program photos are taken of all fall sports groups including the GHHS Marching Band. The Marching Band's photo time slot is at 12:15pm, and freshmen should report at 11:40am to get into formal uniform for the photo, with the rest of the members reporting at 11:50am. All members need to wear long white socks and their white marching shoes for the photo. Families are free to order copies of these photos, but it is not required (the order form is available to you on ParentSquare); however, if you order and pay for an individual photo of your student please TELL YOUR STUDENT to have an individual photo taken BEFORE the group photo, because those are optional and most students don't get them done. >>>>NOTE TO SENIOR FAMILIES: you do NOT need to order and pay for a senior Marching Band banner for your student using the athletic department form. GHBOB pays for Marching Band senior banners, and we use a different photographer and vendor than the athletic dept. (If your senior also plays a fall sport, then they willneed to bring an order form and payment for that banner today.)
  6. PEP RALLY AND FAMILY FUN EVENT: please join your own GHHS Marching Band, as well as the football team and cheerleaders and other community members, at the GH Touchdown Club's "Meet the Team" pep rally this Saturday, August 10 at 4pm in the GHHS gymnasium. This event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a big party at the Columbus Italian Club, complete with drinks, snacks, food trucks, beer sales, games, and other entertainment, with proceeds to support football programs across all grades in Grandview Heights. All are welcome, bring the kids and come join the community fun!
  7. FALCO PARK CONCERT: Last, but certainly not least, on Sunday, August 11 at 7pm, our GHHS Marching Band will give their first performance of the 2024 season in Falco Park in Marble Cliff. Free and open to the public, this is a great family event and all are welcome! Bring a chair or blanket and come join us for an evening of musical selections from the Marching Band's planned programs for the coming football season. GHHS MB students should wear their summer uniforms (shirt, shorts, short white socks and white marching shoes - for new members, shoes were delivered Monday and <we hope> the remainder will be delivered today). NOTE THAT the band has to bring its own chairs and music stands to this event, so if a handful of parents are available to help load those at the Band Room at about 6pm on Sunday, we would be SO grateful to have your assistance!
